What Should I Wear To A Massage?

After your initial consultation, your therapist will leave the room so you can get as undressed as is comfortable for you. They usually recommend removing all clothing except for your knickers, but if you feel more comfortable without them, that’s perfectly fine, too – they are adaptable like that!

A towel or sheet will be provided for you, then you will be asked to place it (usually) on your back and lie on the table with your face in the face cradle (helps with breathing!!). Your massage therapist will knock and check if you are ready before they enter.

To Bra or not to Bra?

It is possible to massage around bra straps, but to be honest – it’s very awkward! Many of the lovely long, relaxing strokes cover the entire back area, so to have straps interrupting them is almost like being cheated out of the topping on the ice cream!

I have had some ladies ask for me to massage just their shoulders and neck, so with permission, the shoulder straps of the bras can be slipped down.

Then of course, there is the issue of the massage oil. Most massage oils these days are water soluble and any oil that comes into contact with clothing should wash out, but there’s not even an issue if you remove your bra!

Your massage therapist will hold up the sheet / towel when it’s time to turn over – you are never exposed! Only the area being worked on is undraped.

Eek I wore my ugly old undies!

Hey, this is actually preferable! Pretty underwear is lost on your massage therapist as they try to maintain your privacy at every turn. So apart from determining where to tuck the cover sheet/towel, they are really not going to see your knickers!!!

In actual fact, your massage therapist would be mortified if they accidentally got oil on your best lingerie, so save that lovely stuff for another day.

At the same time, try not to wear good clothes to your massage – it is so good for your skin to leave the residual oil on your skin instead of wiping it off, so some is bound to get on your clothes.

Boxers or Jocks?

Guys, it’s all about accessibility. Even if you are wearing loose fitting boxers, there are some areas at the top of the hip which boxers make it difficult to get to, but not impossible. What ever is comfortable is the key.

Jewellery / Hair

Your massage therapist will ask you to remove necklaces, bangles, bracelets, dangly earrings and large rings.

If you have long hair, and didn’t bring a hair tie, your massage therapist should have a way of keeping your hair out of the way while they give you your massage.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]
